DESCRIPTION:Read Across Ghana is a literacy education promotion organized by Girls Education Initiative Ghana (GEIG). \nThis event will be in two folds (Reading with school children and a book drive). \nReading with school children will be done with our partner schools in the Greater Accra\, Ashanti Region\, and Northern Region of Ghana. \nThe second part\, the book drive\, is a donation exercise across Ghana and Western countries. GEIG will be using this avenue to solicit reading books from our partners and well-wishers both local and abroad to donate books which will be donated to various schools where literacy education is low. \nThe event forms part of activities to commemorate GEIG’s 10th Anniversary celebration scheduled for March 2024\, commemorating black authors and literature to enable the school children to appreciate their race. Also\, it is to appreciate Ghana’s First President\, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy on education.

In addition to reading books by black authors\, there are various activities that your child can do to earn a bingo. Completing both the reading tracker and the bingo tracker could allow your child a chance to win a prize. There will be three prize given a $100 gift card a $50 gift card and a $25 gift card to our local black owned bookstore (for first\, second and third place) in small acknowledgment awards for the remainder of the children who participated. DESCRIPTION:Burlington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Hosts Children’s Book Fair \n(Burlington\, NC) –  At their upcoming Book Fair\, “They Look Like Me!” on Saturday\, March 2nd\, the Burlington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority\, Incorporated will celebrate authors of color and emphasize the importance of literacy. \nThe National Library Project was the Sorority’s first national project\, beginning in 1937 in Franklin County\, North Carolina. The Burlington Alumnae Chapter reimagined the project locally in 2023 by providing 22 books to multiple elementary schools in Alamance and Caswell Counties. This year the Chapter will host a book fair where community members will have the opportunity to meet more than 15 authors of color and learn about countless literacy resources. Book donations will be accepted for local elementary schools in an effort to diversify their school libraries. The event will also feature live painting by Aleesha Morgan\, a performance by I.A.M.M. Dance Company\, and an appearance by Greensboro’s Poet Laureate\, Josephus Thompson\, III. The event is cosponsored by 17 local businesses\, agencies\, and organizations. The Burlington Alumnae Chapter has been servicing the Alamance County and Caswell County communities since 1988.
