We Brand U Social and Wellspring Partner to Donate Books to Local Children in Celebration of Black Children’s Book Week

Sacramento, CA – We Brand U Social is proud to announce its partnership with Wellspring to promote literacy and celebrate Black Children’s Book Week from February 23, 2025, through March 1, 2025. As part of this initiative, We Brand U Social will donate books to children participating in Wellspring’s breakfast program, reinforcing the power of reading and representation in literature.

This year, We Brand U Social is spotlighting Sacramento-based Black author Crystel Patterson and her inspiring book Too Young to What?. On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 9:30 AM, We Brand U Social Founder & CEO Shonda Moore will read the book to the children of Wellspring in a special literacy event. Mothers and children are warmly invited to attend this free community gathering.

We Brand U Social is grateful to Crystel Patterson for providing a discounted rate and free shipping on copies of Too Young to What?, ensuring that even more children can receive their own book.

Wellspring Women’s Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “nurturing the innate goodness and personal self-esteem of women and their children and to do so within an atmosphere of hospitality with dignity and love.” The organization provides practical assistance combined with compassion and encouragement in a stable environment.

Black Children’s Book Week is an initiative founded by Veronica N. Chapman that celebrates and uplifts Black children’s literature while encouraging literacy among young readers. The weeklong celebration highlights Black authors and illustrators and the importance of diverse stories that reflect the experiences of Black children.

Author Crystel Patterson shares, I am honored to have Too Young to What? spotlighted as part of this incredible initiative. By shining a light on Black children’s literature, we help empower children to see themselves in stories that inspire them to make a difference. This collaboration between Wellspring and We Brand U Social underscores the importance of representation in literature, and I’m excited to see how it will impact the young readers involved.”

For Moore, this initiative is deeply personal.

“Literacy has always been a passion of mine. Books open doors to imagination, knowledge, and opportunity. I wanted to give back in a way that supports young readers and amplifies Black authors’ voices. Partnering with Wellspring for Black Children’s Book Week allows us to make an impact by providing access to stories in which children can see themselves,” said Shonda Moore, Founder & CEO of We Brand U Social.

This event is part of We Brand U Social’s ongoing commitment to education and community engagement. By bridging literacy and representation, the organization aims to foster a love for reading and empower the next generation of young learners.
