February 28, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm EST

Free

“Hip Hop Storytime” is a celebration of Black Excellence in the area of Black American Children’s Literature and Black American Hip Hop Music.  Let the beat drop and get ready to experience the power and passion of HIP HOP like never before!

The books we’ll discuss and read over 30-minutes are:
HIP HOP MUSIC (BY JFAM JOHNSON™, PUBLICATION DATE 02/2023) – a vibrant and dynamic book that celebrates the rich history and enduring influence of Hip Hop. Through catchy rhythm and melodic rhymes, this book brings to life the colorful world of hip hop, and the unique styles that have become iconic within the genre. Filled with dynamic illustrations bursting with energy and style, HIP HOP MUSIC transports readers to the heart of this influential musical movement. (Discuss)

HIP HOP HAIR (BY JFAM JOHNSON™, PUBLICATION DATE 11/2020) – highlights the rhyme, rhythm, and respect of the history and culture of Hip Hop. This literary delight includes original illustrations by Abigail C. Johnson (age 12) and Jael K. Johnson (age 10). Each illustration is a vibrant display of Black and Brown American boys and girls in uplifting and true-to-life settings. With imaginative end rhymes and repetitive melodies, you’ll be chanting, “I’m HIP, I’m HOP,” before you’ve made it half-way through the book. (Discuss & Read)

There will be a live Q&A session where attendees will be able to ask the author questions.

Event Background Info: After noticing many bestselling books about Black Americans that are not authored by people who identify themselves as Black American or African-American, JFAM Johnson wanted to know WHY! Although there has been a great increase in the number of Black American and African-American authors creating their own narratives in the children’s book genre, their discovery revealed the rarity of Black and Brown children’s books authored by Black and Brown children. Now, JFAM Johnson is on a mission to inspire youth to create their ideal world, conquer all disharmony, and crush all stereotypes by authoring books, starting a motivational clothing brand, and producing other works of the imagination.

About The Author: JFAM JOHNSON™ is the name for a collective of creatives, 8 siblings ranging in ages from 6 to 16 years old. Emmanuel B. Johnson, Abigail C. Johnson, Elizabeth M. Johnson, Jael K. Johnson, Phoebe Shalom D. Johnson, Sarah Naveh K.Y. Johnson, Judah A. H. Johnson, and Joshua S. B. Johnson make-up this eccentric group of young creators. During the pandemic of 2020, JFAM JOHNSON™ decided wanted to encourage each other and felt a need to do more than just talk about doing something to support each other. They came up with a plan work as a focused team to create great literature, personalized clothing, and other works of the imagination. Their mission is to educate and empower Black American boys and girls by promoting self-awareness and self-acceptance. They reside in Baltimore, Maryland.
