Left on Read Buy-a-Book, Donate-a-Book Drive
Left on Read is hosting a Buy-a-Book, Donate-a-Book Drive in celebration of Black Children’s Book Week. This community-centered initiative invites readers of all ages to purchase children’s books by Black authors to be donated to Unified School District 259, in Wichita, KS.
The drive is rooted in a simple belief: when Black children see themselves reflected in the stories they read, it supports confidence, imagination, literacy, and a stronger sense of possibility. Throughout the week, visitors can stop by Left on Read to select from a curated list of Black-authored children’s titles, purchasing one at full price and a second for donation at 20% off. Donated books will be distributed to USD 259 schools in support of educators and children in need of diverse, affirming reading materials.
Community members who participate will help place meaningful stories into the hands of young readers while supporting a local, independent Black-owned bookstore committed to representation, wellbeing, and literacy access.
