The Power of Black Women in the Book World

March 1, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm CST

Free

Join us on YouTube Live for this special Black Children’s Book Week event!

Black children’s books are under attack now more than ever. It feels like every day, another Black book is banned–which means another Black child goes unseen.

Black women are at the forefront of many social movements–including mobilizing to champion Black children’s books in the publishing world.

In this roundtable discussion, hear from:

  • Nekima Levy Armstrong, author of J is for Justice
  • Tiffany Baker, illustrator of J is for Justice
  • Titilayo Bediako, literary advocate and executive director of WE WIN
  • Mary Strive, publisher and bookstore owner of Strive Publishing and Bookstore
  • Crown Shepherd, publisher, bookseller at Liberate Your Bookshelf, and author of the children’s books Black Boy, Black Boy and Black Girl, Black Girl

Tune in to see how powerful a movement can be when Black women mobilize to drive change through Black children’s books.
