Representation matters, yet there is a dearth of books with Black representation. This fact often motivates Black authors to engage in a form of activism by publishing their own books, especially children's books with Black protagonists. However, we soon learn that publishing our own books is the same as starting a new business, so we must often seek professional development opportunities in the publishing space, and other forms of support.
